Who we are
We’re building the best… our team make it happen.
Bunnings is the leading retailer of home improvement and outdoor living products in Australia and New Zealand, and a major supplier to project builders, commercial trades and the housing industry.
In February 2016 Bunnings acquired Homebase, the second largest home improvement and garden retailer in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Our team’s guiding principles are integrity, respect, teamwork, achievement and innovation. Our guiding principles are the keys to our culture and to achieving our vision.
We also pursue sustainability within our operations by striving to make them socially responsible, environmentally aware and economically viable.
Being a part of the communities we operate and live in is really important, and we actively contribute to causes and organisations that benefit a range of local charities, groups and organisations.
We value our team members’ contributions, recognise and reward their efforts and provide a fun, satisfying and safe workplace.
By living our values and operating sustainably, we will continue to “build the best” and earn the right to serve our customers tomorrow and into the future.
Way back in 1886, brothers Arthur and Robert Bunning emigrated from the UK to Western Australia where they quickly established themselves as building contractors.
Over the next 50 years, the brothers expanded into sawmills, brickworks and general building supplies. Pioneering the use of the latest equipment from the start, they were always seeking out the best tools for the job, a spirit we retain to this day.
During a building boom in the 1950s, Bunnings Bros diversified into selling home improvement hardware to trade customers, and in 1961 the first Bunnings store open to the public launched in Perth. Since then, the business has grown and grown, becoming the most successful hardware retailer across Australia and New Zealand, with over 300 outlets.
In 2016, exactly 120 years after Arthur and Robert Bunning left for Australia on the SS Elderslie, their legacy returned home when Bunnings acquired Homebase. A year later, the first Bunnings Warehouse in the UK opened in St Albans. It may have taken a little while, but we think Arthur and Robert would smile to see their business coming home after all these years.
